Program Overview

# Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) at University of Sharjah

The MBBS program at University of Sharjah is a comprehensive six-year degree that prepares you to become a compassionate, clinically skilled physician ready to practice medicine globally. You'll learn through an innovative, student-centered approach that blends basic sciences with real clinical practice from day one, ensuring you graduate not just with knowledge, but with the confidence to make a real difference in patients' lives.

## Curriculum Structure

Foundation Year

Your journey begins with the Foundation Year, where you'll build the scientific bedrock essential for medical practice. You'll study Biology, Chemistry, and Physics through both theoretical and practical courses, giving you a solid understanding of the fundamental sciences that underpin everything you'll learn later. This year also introduces you to elective courses, allowing you to explore areas that interest you while completing 30 credit hours of foundational study.

Years 1-3: Pre-Clerkship Phase

During these critical years, your learning is organized around four integrated themes that mirror real-world medical practice: Personal and Professional Development, Population/Society/Health and Illness, Foundation of Medicine, and Clinical Skills. The curriculum seamlessly blends basic medical sciences with behavioral and clinical sciences, so you're not just memorizing facts—you're understanding how diseases develop, how communities influence health, and how to communicate with patients. You'll use Problem-Based Learning to tackle common health problems that you'll encounter again in your clinical years, creating a meaningful, connected learning experience.

Years 4-5: Clinical Phase

Now you step into real hospitals and begin your clinical rotations across various departments in public hospitals throughout Sharjah. These two years are integrated and intensive, requiring you to successfully complete all clinical training rotations while deepening your understanding of the health problems you studied theoretically. By the end of Year 5, you'll have hands-on experience diagnosing and treating patients, supervised by experienced physicians who'll guide your transition from student to practicing doctor.

## Focus Areas

Personal and Professional Development | Population, Society, Health and Illness | Foundation of Medicine | Clinical Skills

## Learning Outcomes
