BSc Nursing

Curriculum structure

Year 1

In the first year, students establish core scientific and health foundations through modules like Biology, General Chemistry for Health Sciences, Human Anatomy and Physiology, and Introduction to Health Sciences, which build understanding of the human body and health science principles. Complementary subjects such as English for Medical Sciences and General Physics for Health Sciences develop communication and analytical skills essential for future nursing practice. This year also introduces foundational professional concepts that prepare students for both theory and clinical practice.

Year 2

In the second year, students deepen nursing-specific skills with courses including General Microbiology, Physical Assessment, Advanced Communication, Pathophysiology, Fundamentals of Nursing, and Clinical Pharmacology. These modules enhance clinical reasoning, patient assessment, therapeutic communication, and the scientific basis for disease management and medication administration. Practical lab and simulation experiences begin to prepare students for real-world nursing care.

Year 3

By Year 3, the curriculum focuses on specialised patient care with units such as Adult Health Nursing (1 & 2) and Practicum, Maternity and Newborn Health Nursing and Practicum, and Pediatric Health Nursing and Practicum, where students apply the nursing process to care for individuals across the lifespan. These courses emphasise assessment, planning, intervention and evaluation in complex clinical scenarios, integrating psychosocial and cultural factors into holistic care. The combination of theoretical learning and supervised clinical placements builds confidence and professional judgment.

Year 4

In the final year, students refine advanced practice through modules such as Family and Community Health Nursing and Practicum, Critical Care Nursing/Practicum, Mental Health Nursing and Practicum, Ethical and Legal Issues in Health Professions, and Research Project. This stage integrates leadership, ethical decision-making, community-focused care, and evidence-based research, culminating in Consolidation of Nursing Practice which bridges theory and autonomous clinical practice before graduation.
