BSc Pharmacy

4 Years On Campus Bachelors Program

University of Sharjah

Program Overview

The Bachelor of Pharmacy (B.Pharm.) at the University of Sharjah is a comprehensive undergraduate degree that equips students with scientific, clinical and professional competencies in medication therapy, drug formulation, patient care and pharmacy practice. It suits students passionate about healthcare, science and community well-being who want to pursue careers in clinical pharmacy, community pharmacy, pharmaceutical industry, drug regulation, research or advanced study in pharmaceutical sciences.

Curriculum structure

Year 1:
In the first year, students build a strong foundation in the biomedical and pharmaceutical sciences through essential units such as General Chemistry, Human Anatomy and Physiology, Introduction to Pharmacy Practice, and Pharmaceutical Calculations. These subjects develop the core scientific knowledge and quantitative skills needed to understand how drugs interact with the human body and how pharmacy professionals support safe medication use. Students also begin exploring the role of pharmacy in healthcare, laying the groundwork for later clinical practice.

Year 2:
The second year deepens pharmaceutical expertise with courses such as Pharmacology, Pharmaceutics (Dosage Forms and Drug Delivery Systems), and Pharmaceutical Chemistry. Here, learners study how drugs are designed, formulated and absorbed, while also gaining insight into the biochemical mechanisms of drug action. Laboratory work and practical sessions reinforce theory with hands-on skills that are crucial for safe and effective medication preparation and dispensing.

Year 3:
In the third year, students progress to more advanced topics including Pharmaceutical Analysis, Integrated Pharmacology and Therapeutics, and Clinical Pharmacy Skills, where they begin linking drug action with patient outcomes. Units such as Microbiology and Infection Control and Pathophysiology help students understand disease processes and therapeutic interventions. Practical training and simulation pharmacy experiences enhance competence in patient counselling and clinical decision-making.

Year 4:
The final year focuses on professional integration with modules like Pharmacy Practice and Management, Pharmacoeconomics and Healthcare Policy, and Advanced Therapeutics, culminating in an extensive Graduation Project or Capstone. Students apply cumulative knowledge to analyse real-world pharmaceutical problems, understand health systems, optimise medication therapy and prepare for licensure or postgraduate pathways. Electives such as Pharmacogenomics or Informatics in Pharmacy allow personalised areas of focus.
