Bachelor of Science in Physiotherapy (BSPT)

4 Years On Campus Bachelors Program

Ajman University

Program Overview

The Bachelor of Science in Physiotherapy (BSPT) at Ajman University is a 4-year professional healthcare degree that prepares students to become competent physiotherapists through a blend of scientific coursework and extensive clinical practice. It suits students aiming for careers in rehabilitation, sports medicine, neurology, orthopedics and community health, where they will apply evidence-based therapeutic techniques to improve patient mobility and quality of life.

Curriculum Structure

Year 1

In the first year, students establish foundations with Introduction to Healthcare, Human Anatomy & Physiology I & II, Biomechanics & Kinesiology I, and Therapeutic Exercise, building essential understanding of body systems, movement science, and basic physiotherapy principles.

Year 2

The second year deepens clinical skills through modules like Therapeutic Modalities, Assessment in Physical Therapy, Biomechanics & Kinesiology II, and Clinical Placement for Respiratory & Cardiovascular Conditions, integrating hands-on training with theoretical knowledge.

Year 3

In year three, students engage with advanced practice areas such as Physical Therapy for Musculoskeletal Conditions I & II, Physical Therapy for Neurological Conditions, Orthotics, and significant Clinical Placements, refining clinical assessment and intervention skills across patient populations.

Year 4

The final year concentrates on specialised care and professional readiness with modules like Physical Therapy for Pediatrics, Physical Therapy for Geriatrics, Informatics in Physical Therapy, Sports Physical Therapy, and the Graduation Project I & II, allowing students to synthesise learning and demonstrate competence in complex therapeutic contexts.

Focus areas (in a string):

Human anatomy & physiology, biomechanics, therapeutic modalities, clinical assessment, musculoskeletal & neurological physiotherapy, pediatrics and geriatrics, sports physiotherapy

Learning outcomes (in a string):

Graduates will apply evidence-based physiotherapy techniques, conduct comprehensive patient assessments, plan and deliver therapeutic interventions, integrate clinical reasoning with professional practice, and engage in safe, ethical patient care

Professional alignment (accreditation):

The program is accredited by the UAE Ministry of Education / Commission for Academic Accreditation (CAA), preparing graduates for licensure and practice as physiotherapy professionals.

Reputation (employability rankings):

Experiential Learning (Research, Projects, Internships etc.)

This clinical training is structured through the following specific components:

  • Specialized Physiotherapy Laboratories: Students train in labs such as the Clinical Skills and Simulation Lab, Musculoskeletal Assessment & Rehabilitation Lab, Neurological Rehabilitation Lab, Cardiorespiratory Physiotherapy Lab, and Hydrotherapy Pool.

  • Clinical Therapeutic Equipment: Labs are equipped with modern tools including electrotherapy units (TENS, ultrasound, laser), traction tables, continuous passive motion (CPM) machines, balance and proprioception training systems (Biodex, Balance Master), gait analysis equipment, and strength training apparatus.

  • Mandatory Clinical Placements (Internships): Students complete multiple, full-time clinical placements across different healthcare settings. These typically include rotations in public and private hospitals, orthopedic and sports clinics, neurological rehabilitation centers, pediatric units, and cardiorespiratory wards under the supervision of licensed physiotherapists.

  • Simulation-Based Learning: The Clinical Skills and Simulation Laboratory uses high-fidelity patient manikins and standardized patients to practice assessment, manual therapy techniques, and emergency response in a controlled environment before working with real patients.

  • Interprofessional Education (IPE): The curriculum includes IPE activities where physiotherapy students collaborate with medical, nursing, and pharmacy students on simulated patient cases to develop team-based care skills.

Progression & Future Opportunities

Ajman University's Bachelor of Science in Physiotherapy (BSPT), a new 129-credit-hour program launching in 2025, equips students with clinical skills for rehabilitation across healthcare, sports, and community settings through evidence-based training aligned with UAE healthcare needs.

Progression & Future Opportunities: The curriculum emphasizes practical competence:

  • Progressive clinical placements build hands-on experience in musculoskeletal, neurological, respiratory/cardiovascular, pediatric, obstetric/gynecological, and geriatric care.

  • Core courses cover biomechanics/kinesiology , therapeutic modalities/exercise , orthotics , and specialized physical therapy for MSK, neuro, sports , and geriatrics.

  • Research methodology , biostatistics , and graduation projects  foster evidence-based practice.

  • Graduates target roles in hospitals, rehab centers, sports medicine, and community health in UAE/internationally.

  • University support includes innovation/entrepreneurship training for career advancement.

Further Academic Progression: BSPT prepares students for MSc/PhD programs in physiotherapy, sports science, or rehabilitation worldwide, building on clinical placements, research projects, and advanced topics like informatics.
