Curriculum structure

Year 1:

Cell and Molecular Biology (BIOC290) introduces cellular processes and molecular functions vital for all advanced biology disciplines, while concentration electives begin to appear, offering early insight into specialised subjects within either ecology or molecular biology streams. Year 3:
In the third year, students progress into more advanced specialisation with electives tailored to their chosen track: those in Ecology & Organismal Biology might take Biodiversity & Evolution (BIOE250) and Population & Community Ecology (BIOE320), while those in Cellular & Molecular Biology might study Molecular Biology of Genes (BIOM335) and Immunology (BIOM462). These courses emphasize biological diversity, evolutionary processes, cellular genetics, and immunological mechanisms, fostering deep scientific expertise. In parallel, courses such as Computing and Data Analysis for Biology (BIOM280) equip students with modern tools for biological research and interpretation. 

Year 4:
In the final year, learners engage in high-level synthesis with the Research Project (BIOC480) and Advanced Bio-applications (BIOC490), applying accumulated knowledge to real-world scientific questions. The Internship (BIOL500) offers practical professional experience in labs, conservation organisations, biotech companies, or clinical research settings, while continuing concentration electives — such as Marine Biology (BIOE454) or Biotechnology & Genetic Engineering (BIOM433) — enable further subject mastery and preparation for either graduate study or immediate professional work.
