Animals have co-existed with humans for millennia. Scientific study of basic animal physiology, developmental biology, reproduction, behaviour, bioethics, nutritional sciences and biochemistry is very important for improving the productivity of animals and wellbeing of companion species while supporting their health and welfare. Interaction of animal science with the pharmaceutical industry is developing and links to human nutrition, biomedical science and physiology are advancing.
