This BSc (Hons) Architectural Design & Technology degree gives you a practical and technical understanding of how buildings are structured, detailed, and maintained — combining design thinking with construction know‑how. Curriculum Structure

Year 1

In your first year, you’ll dive into Architectural Technology 1 and 2, where you learn the basics of building design, structural logic, and how to draw using both hand and computer‑aided methods. You’ll also take a Research Basics module to build your ability to gather and analyse relevant information, and Interdisciplinary Understanding, where you collaborate with students from other disciplines on culturally or socially relevant design challenges.

Year 2

In year two, you’ll develop more technical depth with Exploring Architectural Technology, focusing on framed-building systems, structural detailing, and services integration. Through Architectural Science, you’ll explore the science of building systems — heating, cooling, fire safety, drainage, and environmental controls — and deepen your understanding through real‑world‑context modules where you work on projects involving communities or real stakeholders. You’ll also write a Research Proposal for your final-year independent study.

Year 3

Your final year centers on professional readiness and independent work. You’ll take The Architectural Technology Professional, where you examine the role of the technologist in practice and plan for your career. In Positioning in Practice, you reflect on studio work, professional goals, and how to present yourself in the real world. There’s also a Contribution module, where you complete a major piece of research or practical design work that ties together everything you’ve learned.
