Program Overview

This four‑year BSc Architecture degree gives you the same solid design, technical, and theoretical foundation as the standard BSc, but also includes a full year studying abroad. It’s ideal for students who want not just to learn architecture, but to experience architectural education in a different cultural context — building global awareness and adaptability alongside design skills.

Curriculum Structure

Year 1

You begin with foundational modules like Explorations in Architectural Design, where you work in studio to build your sense of space, form, and design process. Alongside this, you study Principles of Architectural Technology to understand the basic construction systems and building assemblies, and Chronologies of Architecture to learn about architectural history and theory. There’s also Architect & Society, where you explore the ethical and community role of architecture, and Design Foundations, which supports your research, sketching, and modelling skills.

Year 2

In your second year, you deepen your architectural thinking through a studio-based Design in Context module, where you respond to more complex design challenges grounded in real or hypothetical client briefs. Architectural Technology in Context helps you apply technical knowledge about building systems, and Architecture in Context along with Architecture & Professional Contexts sharpen your understanding of how architecture intersects with social, economic, and cultural issues. A key module called Conceptualising Design gives you space to undertake a long-form design project, integrating your research, analysis, and design capabilities.

Year 3 — Year of Study Abroad

Your third year is spent entirely at a partner university abroad, where you’ll take the equivalent of 120 credits, with at least around half being architecture-focused. This year helps you develop intercultural sensitivity, adapt your design thinking to a new academic system, and gain a deeper understanding of architectural practice in a different cultural or geographic context.

Year 4

When you return for your final year, you choose a Thematic Studio (such as Urbanism, Making, Environment, Adaptation, or Personhood & Place) where you focus your design project around a theme that inspires you. You also take Design Manifesto, where you articulate your design philosophy, Integrating Technology, which weaves technical systems into your proposals, Theories & Thinkers, to engage with architectural theory, and Architectural Practice & Economic Context, to understand the business, legal, and ethical side of architecture. You finish with Design Integration, a major design project combining all your learning into a coherent, professionally grounded proposal.
