The Architecture MSci at UCL is a five‑year integrated master’s combining deep design exploration with social, technical, and research-driven understanding. It’s ideal if you’re ambitious: you’ll graduate with both ARB Part 1 and Part 2 accreditation, and finish with a year of real‑world experience in architectural practice.

Curriculum Structure

Years 1‑4

During the first four years, you build a strong foundation in design, theory, technology, and research. Every year is themed around a broad architectural and social issue — these themes shift annually, allowing you to explore the built environment from local and global perspectives. In design studios, you respond to that theme through projects; modules such as Structural Concepts & Tools (e.g. “MSci Architecture structural concepts and tools”) help you grasp the engineering and technical side of architecture. You’ll also engage with theory, history, environmental design, and digital representation as part of your core learning.

Year 5 (Placement Year)

The fifth year is spent in professional placement: you work in an architecture practice, applying your design and research skills in a real-world context. If a placement isn’t available, you have the option to take two advanced modules from UCL’s MArch programme instead, allowing you to continue academic study rather than industry experience.
