Program Overview

The BA (Hons) Architecture at UAL’s Central Saint Martins (CSM) encourages you to rethink architecture’s role, focusing on social interaction, ecological justice, and material culture. Curriculum Structure

Stage 1 (Year 1)

Stage 2 (Year 2)

In your second year, you’ll take on design studios that deepen your spatial thinking, addressing collective and public environments, and experiment with representation. Technical modules encourage experimentation with structure and materials, while contextual theory explores how architecture is embedded in culture and ecology. You’ll also develop your voice in practice, exploring what kind of spatial practitioner you want to become.

Stage 3 (Year 3)

Your final year brings together everything you’ve learned. You produce a Design Synthesis studio project — a critically engaged, integrated design that combines social, cultural, and ecological concerns. The Strategic Technical Thesis enables you to tackle deeper technical complexities, while Practicing Ethics 3 supports a self-directed investigation into the role of the architect and your own positioning in practice.
