Program Overview

The BA (Hons) Intercultural Business Communication and Tourism Management at Edinburgh Napier University is a distinctive joint honours program—the only one of its kind in the UK—that blends intercultural studies with the strategic and operational aspects of the global tourism industry. Students will gain a deep understanding of how culture shapes business communication and tourism experiences, with an emphasis on sustainability, global mobility, and ethical destination management.

This PRME-aligned course integrates the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) throughout its curriculum, preparing graduates to become socially responsible professionals. With optional study abroad, UK work placements, or live projects in Year 3, this program ensures graduates are well-equipped for international careers across tourism, cultural services, and global business.

Year 1: Introduction to Intercultural Business Communication, Intercultural Organisational Management, Introduction to International Hospitality, Tourism & Events, Global Tourism Distribution, Marketing 1, World History: International Contexts

Year 2: Intercultural Communication for the Global Workplace, Exploring Culture, European History & Politics for the 21st Century, Tourism Impacts and Sustainable Development, Facilities Planning for Hospitality, Tourism and Events, Visitor Attraction Management

Year 3: Migration, Mobilities and Intercultural Competence, International Tourism Policy and Planning, Global Service Management, Optional: UK Work Placement / Study Abroad / Live Project + Elective

Year 4: Communication in International Management, Cultural Studies: Working Lives, Leadership, Innovation and Technology for Tourism, Hospitality and Events, International Destination Marketing and Management, Dissertation.

Experiential Learning (Research, Projects, Internships etc.)
