Program Overview

The BSc (Hons) Business and Marketing at the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) is designed to develop both practical marketing capabilities and strategic business knowledge essential for success in the modern commercial environment. Students explore how organisations operate within competitive markets and how effective marketing plays a central role in business success.

  • Accredited by both the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) and the Chartered Management Institute (CMI), the course offers industry-recognised qualifications, with the opportunity to gain a Level 5 CMI Award and exemptions from CIM exams.

Students benefit from an entrepreneurial ecosystem through UCLan’s Propeller Team, while strong connections to industry allow them to work on live marketing projects and consultancy briefs. The course supports career progression through networking, guest lectures, and optional placement opportunities. 

Course overview

  • Year 1: Introduction to marketing and business fundamentals including consumer behaviour, the business landscape, and academic/professional skills.

  • Year 2: Study marketing theory, digital marketing, corporate social responsibility, and business futures.

  • Year 3: Focus on strategic business decisions, neuromarketing, and contemporary issues in sustainability. Optional modules included

Experiential Learning (Research, Projects, Internships etc.)

  • Optional 48-week paid placement to gain real-world industry experience

  • Live consultancy and marketing projects with employers and alumni

  • Entrepreneurship support through the Propeller Hub and Small Business Charter network

  • Guest speakers and Entrepreneurs in Residence 

  • Access to the Student Enterprise Hub, Advertising Studio, and Microsoft specialist tools
