Program Overview

The BA Modern Languages and Business is an interdisciplinary four-year degree that combines practical language training with core business knowledge. Delivered by the Department of Languages and Cultures in collaboration with Henley Business School, the course equips students with global employability skills, cultural fluency, and commercial awareness for careers in international and multilingual environments.

You can choose to study one of four core languages:

  • French

  • German

  • Italian

  • Spanish

Each language pathway is suitable for both beginners and advanced learners.

Course Structure:

  • Year 1:

    • Practical language modules to build grammar, speaking, and comprehension skills.

    • Core business modules including marketing, accounts, and data analytics.

  • Year 2:

    • Advanced language study with cultural and literary context.

    • Business modules in areas like human resource management and business strategy.

  • Year 3 (Year Abroad):

    • Study while work abroad in a country where your chosen language is spoken to immerse in the culture and strengthen your linguistic skills.

  • Year 4:

    • Independent research project or dissertation combining your language and business interests.

    • EQUIS – European Quality Improvement System

Experiential Learning (Research, Projects, Internships etc.)

  • Compulsory Year Abroad for all language students, undertaken through:
    • Study placements at partner universities

    • Work placements or teaching assistantships

  • Final-year dissertation or research project - optional
