The poet and soldier Wilfred Edward Salter Owen MC was from England. During World War I, he was one of the most prominent poets. His war poetry, which contrasted with the proudly patriotic lyric of earlier war poets like Rupert Brooke and the public's impression of war at the time, focused on the horrors of gas warfare and trench warfare and was heavily influenced by his master Siegfried Sassoon. His most well-known pieces include "Dulce et Decorum est," "Insensibility," "Anthem for Doomed Youth," "Futility," "Spring Offensive," and "Strange Meeting." The majority of these were released after his death. View Less
