BA/BSc Business, Management, Economics & Law with Foundation Year

4 Years On Campus Bachelors Program

SOAS University of London

Program Overview

The Business, Management, Economics & Law with Foundation Year at SOAS gives you a full four-year path to gain strong grounding in business, economics and law — starting with a preparatory foundation year that builds essential academic, quantitative and digital skills. It’s ideal for students who want a flexible, global-minded undergraduate degree that combines business, economics and legal perspectives, even if they don’t yet meet standard entry requirements.

Curriculum Structure:

Foundation Year:
In this preparatory year, you build the academic tools and confidence needed for undergraduate study. With modules like Academic Practice 1 & 2, you learn critical thinking, academic writing and study skills. Courses such as Data and Critical Thinking, Digital Skills and Technology, and The World from SOAS help you get comfortable with numbers, technology, global issues and cultural awareness — while Introduction to Business, Management, Economics & Law 1 & 2 give you a first taste of the core disciplines.

Subsequent Undergraduate Years:
After successfully finishing the foundation year, you move on to the full BA or BSc degree combining Business, Management, Economics and Law. Over those years, you’ll study core business and economics modules (e.g. management principles, quantitative and analytical techniques, accounting/finance basics) alongside offerings from law or economics that reflect the combined nature of the degree. You’ll learn to apply theory to real-world business, economic and legal contexts, sharpen analytical skills, and gain a broad understanding of global markets, institutions, and regulatory frameworks.

Focus Areas:
Business management, economics, law, quantitative analysis, global business and law context, cross-disciplinary social & economic systems

Learning Outcomes:
Develop strong academic foundations (writing, critical thinking), quantitative and analytical skills, digital and data literacy, cross-disciplinary business/economics/law knowledge, and global and cultural awareness for business and legal environments

Professional Alignment (Accreditation):
This integrated program aligns you for career paths in business, finance, management, legal advisory, policy, or economics — and because it’s offered by SOAS, it carries international credibility and a global perspective valued by employers and institutions worldwide.

Reputation (Employability & Institutional Strength):
As part of SOAS’s Foundation-Year offerings, this course leverages the school’s strength in global studies, business & management, economics, and law — combining interdisciplinary breadth with employability-focused preparation. The School of Finance & Management at SOAS ranks among UK institutions offering strong employability outcomes for business/economics-oriented degrees.

Experiential Learning (Research, Projects, Internships etc.)

At SOAS, this programme goes far beyond classroom learning — it’s designed to help you grow academically and professionally right from the start. You won’t just study theories; you’ll develop practical skills, confidence, and real-world experience that prepare you for internships, placements, and future career opportunities. With small classes, hands-on digital training, and strong support from academic and career teams, you build a solid foundation throughout your Foundation Year and degree.

Here’s how SOAS helps you gain meaningful, real-world exposure:

• Digital & Academic Foundations:
During your Foundation Year, you take modules that strengthen the skills every employer looks for — from digital literacy and data handling to academic writing and critical thinking. This early preparation sets you up confidently for the more advanced business, economics, and law modules later on.

• Interdisciplinary Insight:
You’ll explore business, management, economics and law through introductory modules that show how all these fields connect in real life. This broad understanding is especially valuable for careers where you’re expected to analyse problems from different angles and make informed, global-minded decisions.

• Personalised Career Support:
As a SOAS student, you get access to a dedicated Careers Service offering one-to-one guidance, support with CVs and cover letters, mock interviews, and tailored workshops. Whether you’re looking for your first internship or preparing for graduate jobs, you’ll always have expert help at every step.

• Internship & Work-Experience Opportunities:
SOAS offers structured internship programmes — both on campus and with external organisations — where you can apply for paid or credited roles during your studies. These opportunities allow you to gain hands-on experience in areas like business, policy, economics, NGOs, or social enterprises, helping you build a strong professional profile early on.

• Global Perspective That Employers Value:
One of the biggest strengths of studying at SOAS is its global outlook. Through region-focused and internationally themed modules, you gain a culturally aware perspective that’s highly valued by employers working across borders, whether in global business, development, international economics or international law.

Progression & Future Opportunities

Graduates from this programme leave SOAS well equipped for a wide range of careers spanning business, finance, management, economics and law — opening doors to roles like business analyst, financial consultant, policy advisor, or legal-compliance associate. Because the degree combines disciplines and grows from a solid foundation, it’s especially useful if you want flexibility: you could head into corporate business, international organisations, government/ public service or global NGOs once you graduate.

Here’s how SOAS helps you make that transition — and what you might expect after finishing:

  • Dedicated career support: The SOAS Careers Service provides personalised guidance — from CV & cover-letter help and mock interviews to workshops, job/internship listings and alumni/employer networking events — through all years of study and beyond.

  • Strong employment prospects: Many graduates from SOAS’s business / economics-oriented courses find jobs soon after graduation, often in finance, business management, administration or public-service roles.

  • Breadth of opportunities: Thanks to the programme’s mix of business, economics and law, graduates are positioned for varied sectors — from corporate finance or consulting, to policy, international development or legal-compliance work. This wide scope adds long-term value.

  • Global and intercultural edge: Because SOAS emphasises global perspectives and cultural awareness, graduates often stand out to employers who value international outlook and adaptability — a plus in today’s global job market.

  • Long-term degree value: Completing the Foundation Year + degree gives you academic credentials recognized by employers and institutions globally — giving flexibility whether you aim for corporate, NGO/ public-policy, finance, or further study.

Further Academic Progression:
After finishing this BA/BSc, you can choose to specialise further through postgraduate studies — for example by pursuing a master’s in business, economics, finance, law, international development or public policy. This can deepen your expertise and open doors to more advanced roles in consultancy, international organisations, development agencies or academia.
