Student life at SOAS University of London is diverse, international and socially active, with more than 5,500 students from around 130 countries and a strong multicultural atmosphere. Students can join 200+ societies and sports clubs, covering cultural, political, religious, academic, artistic and sporting interests, as well as participate in student campaigns, media and volunteering.

The Students’ Union plays a central role in campus life, organising cultural, religious and political events as well as social activities such as karaoke and comedy. Its Junior Common Room provides a space for students to meet, study, attend society activities and socialise. The central Bloomsbury location also gives students easy access to museums, galleries, theatres, restaurants, cafés and London's cultural attractions, including the British Museum and British Library.

Students can also benefit from on-campus employment opportunities, including student ambassador, content creator and Students’ Union roles, while Welcome Week and other activities help new students build friendships and become familiar with the university and London. Overall, SOAS offers a student experience centred on international diversity, cultural exchange, intellectual discussion, activism and community participation.

SOAS University of London has a dedicated Careers Service that connects students and graduates with employers through careers fairs, employer presentations, skills workshops, recruiter-in-residence sessions and networking events. Employers can advertise graduate, part-time and internship vacancies through CareersZONE, the university’s careers platform. SOAS also offers internships, student consultancy projects, job-shadowing and part-time work opportunities, helping students gain practical experience alongside their studies.

The university hosts on-campus careers fairs where students can meet recruiters, learn about vacancies and understand recruitment processes. Its employer-engagement programme also includes company presentations, diversity-focused recruitment events and industry skills workshops. SOAS graduates have gone on to work with organisations including BBC, Bloomberg, Deloitte, KPMG, Amnesty International, Oxfam, the United Nations Development Programme, World Bank and Save the Children, reflecting the university’s strong links with sectors such as media, consulting, government, international development, NGOs and finance.
