Curriculum Structure
Year 1
Your first year introduces you to the foundations of finance, banking, and business. You’ll study Quantitative Methods and Finance, Introduction to Finance, and Introduction to Accounting I & II, alongside Introduction to Management, Professional and Academic Development (Finance), and Introduction to Economics. These modules build your skills in financial reporting, quantitative analysis, and management theory, while embedding employability and career planning from the start.
Year 2
In your second year, you move into applied banking and finance. Modules such as Corporate Finance, Portfolio Analysis, and Introduction to Banking sharpen your ability to evaluate investments, manage risk, and understand the role of banks in the modern economy. You’ll also take Financial Modelling (using EViews software) and Behavioural Finance, developing expertise in econometric analysis and investor psychology.
Year Abroad
In your third year, you’ll study at one of Essex’s partner universities worldwide — in destinations such as the United States, Europe, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Latin America, the Middle East, Hong Kong, or Japan. This experience builds intercultural awareness, global employability, and adaptability, while broadening your academic and social horizons.
Final Year
Your final year focuses on advanced banking regulation and global financial systems. You’ll study International Banking, Options and Futures, Risk Management and Financial Institutions, and International Financial Markets and Monetary Policy, alongside optional modules to tailor your expertise. A dissertation or major research project allows you to apply your skills to real-world challenges, demonstrating your readiness for graduate-level roles.
