Business Management Human Resource Management BA Honours

3 Years On Campus Bachelors Program

Middlesex University London

Program Overview

This course blends core business skills—like finance, marketing, operations—with a deep dive into human resources: how organisations hire, develop, and manage people. It’s ideal if you enjoy understanding what makes workplaces tick, want to lead teams, or aim for an HR or people-management role in business.

Curriculum Structure

Here’s roughly how your learning unfolds year by year, and some of the modules you’ll study:

Year 1
You’ll start by building your foundation: understanding how businesses work in a global setting, learning about financial accounting and management, and getting introduced to digital tools. For example, modules like Management in the Global Environment, Financial Performance Management, and Data and Digital Technologies help you get comfortable with analysing business environments, interpreting financial data, and using digital systems.

Year 2
In the second year the learning becomes more HR-focused while still building broader management skills. You’ll study modules such as Resourcing and Talent Management, Operations & Supply Chain Management, Innovation, Entrepreneurship & Sustainability, and Management Analytics & Visualisation. These teach you how to manage recruitment & rewards, design operations, use data for decision-making, and think about sustainability in business practice.

Year 3
This is where you bring everything together: strategy, leadership, and specialist HR topics. Compulsory modules include Business Strategy, Global Human Resource Management, and Organisational Psychology & Leadership. You’ll also complete a substantial work placement (90 credits) plus an associated portfolio (30 credits), which gives you real, hands-on experience in HR settings.

Learning outcomes

By the time you finish, you should be able to:

  • Critically analyse business models & HR practices in real organisations
  • Apply HR theory to solve real-world problems (hiring, employee relations, performance issues)
  • Use digital tools & data analysis to inform management decisions
  • Lead teams, manage projects, communicate across stakeholder groups
  • Understand ethical, legal, and global dimensions of HR work

Professional alignment (accreditation)

  • The degree is CIPD-aligned: that means you get student membership of CIPD, and your HR modules align with professional standards.
  • Also, there is recognition from the Chartered Management Institute (CMI) among the business and management subject area offerings at Middlesex.

Reputation (employability rankings)

  • Middlesex was ranked #1 in the UK by UniCompare Top 100 Universities (2026) in terms of student satisfaction, course quality, and importantly, employability outcomes.
  • In subject-rankings, Middlesex’s Business and Management holds a more modest position: around #108-117 in Guardian rankings.
  • Completing the degree gives you very good prospects: graduate roles in HR such as HR Officer, Recruitment Consultant, Training & Development roles, etc. Also, the built-in work placement gives strong practical advantage.

Experiential Learning (Research, Projects, Internships etc.)

From day one, the HR-track at Middlesex doesn’t just lecture you on theory — you’ll be actively using real tools, working with real employers, and doing projects & placements that mirror what HR professionals do in modern organisations. You will gain:

  • Workshops, seminars, role-plays & case studies so you can practise people management, conflict resolution, performance appraisals etc.
  • Use of industry-standard software like Xero, Sage, OneSource and access to the Financial Markets Lab with live data markets to develop your financial, data & HR systems skills.
  • Modules specifically focused on Resourcing & Talent Management, Global Human Resource Management, Organisational Psychology & Leadership — letting you apply HR knowledge in modern organisational & even international contexts.
