Robotics and Artificial Intelligence MEng

4 Years On Campus Bachelors Program

University College London

Program Overview

The MEng in Robotics and Artificial Intelligence at UCL is an exciting four-year program that blends cutting-edge AI with hands-on robotics. It’s perfect for students who love solving real-world problems using intelligent systems, combining strong technical skills with creative, practical projects.

Curriculum Structure:

Year 1:
In the first year, you’ll build a solid foundation in maths, programming, and mechanical principles. Modules like Mathematics for Robotics and AI 1, Introduction to Mechanical Systems, and Introduction to Programming for Robotics and AI introduce you to the core concepts. You’ll also get hands-on with Mechatronics and Making, where theory comes alive through practical projects.

Year 2:
Year two dives deeper into control systems, simulation, and software development. You’ll study Control 2, Modelling and Simulation, and Object-Oriented Programming for Robotics and AI, gaining the tools to design and control intelligent systems. The Industrial Project in Robotics and AI gives you the chance to tackle real-world challenges.

Year 3:
In your third year, you’ll explore advanced AI and robotics topics like Deep Learning for Robotics and AI, Networking, Real-time Operating Systems and Security, and Simultaneous Localization and Mapping. The Robotics and AI Group Project helps you apply your knowledge while collaborating with peers.

Year 4:
The final year lets you specialise and innovate. Modules such as Multi-agent Systems, Scene Understanding and Situational Awareness, and Human Robot Interaction allow you to focus on your interests. The MEng Robotics and AI Individual Project is your chance to pursue in-depth research or industry-focused work, with optional units like Inclusive Design and Environments or Entrepreneurship to tailor the degree to your goals.

Focus Areas:
Robotics, Artificial Intelligence, Mechatronics, Machine Learning, Control Systems, Human-Robot Interaction, Multi-agent Systems

Learning Outcomes:
Design and program intelligent robotic systems, apply machine learning effectively, understand control theory, and solve real-world engineering challenges.

Professional Alignment (Accreditation):
The program is accredited by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) and the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE), meeting professional engineering standards.

Reputation (Employability Rankings):
UCL is globally recognised for excellence, and this program’s mix of theory and hands-on experience prepares graduates for top careers in robotics, AI, and related fields.
