Interdisciplinary subjects such as sociology, psychology, law, health, and management contribute to students' knowledge, while practical work placements help to build relevant sector-specific skills and knowledge.
During the first year, students acquire knowledge about diversity in childhood, important developmental milestones, factors influencing infant health and well-being, and how child development theories are reflected in policies and practices. They also receive training on essential skills and knowledge for their first work placement.
In the second year, students examine the role of play in learning and well-being, and review the political and cultural context of policies that aim to address inequality, support children's rights, and improve educational outcomes. They undertake a second placement to enhance their professional knowledge and skills.
During the third year, students complete a third placement to develop strong leadership qualities and deepen their understanding of professionalism. They can choose two specialist areas from SEND, creativity, SEAL, and digital media to further their knowledge. Additionally, they conduct a detailed study on any aspect of early childhood that they choose.
