4 Years On Campus Bachelors Program
Program Overview:
The BEng(Hons) Aerospace Engineering (with Foundation Year) at UWE Bristol is designed for students who want a solid entry route into aerospace engineering, even if they don’t meet standard entry requirements. You’ll gain industry-focused knowledge and hands-on skills for a successful career in the aerospace sector.
Curriculum structure:
Foundation Year: You'll learn key engineering skills in modules like Engineering Experimentation, Foundation Group Project, Foundation Mathematics: Algebra and Calculus, Foundation Mechanics, and Introduction to Mechatronics. Year Zero gets you ready for the technical demands of degree-level study.
Year 1: You'll learn Aerospace Engineering, Aerospace Thermofluids, Dynamics Modelling and Simulation, Engineering Practice 1, and Solid Mechanics, Materials and Manufacturing. Laboratory experience and project work introduce you to basic aerospace principles.
Year 2: The modules are Aerospace Systems Design, Engineering Practice 2, Engineering Research, Flight, Fundamental Aero-Propulsion, Fundamental Aerodynamics, and Structural Mechanics. You can start specialising via Systems, Design, or Manufacturing routes, and participate in embedded project weeks.
Year 3: You will undertake an Aerospace Group Design Project, an individual Engineering Project, and Professionalism for Engineers. Select four optional modules like Aero Structures, Avionics, Composite Engineering, Control Engineering, Digital Manufacturing in Aerospace, Further Aero-Propulsion, Further Aerodynamics, Integrated Electro-Mechanical Systems, Space Engineering, or Spaceflight, making your studies relevant to your interests.
Focus areas: Aerodynamics, propulsion, flight mechanics, aerospace systems design, structures, manufacturing, avionics, space engineering.
Learning outcomes: Design and model aerospace vehicles, produce and prototype, apply computational and experimental methodologies, and demonstrate teamwork and innovation.
Professional alignment (accreditation): Accredited by Royal Aeronautical Society (RAeS); in the process of re-accreditation for intake 2025.
Reputation (graduate employability ratings): 86.5% of engineering graduates in work or further education 15 months after leaving university; average salary £28,000 (post-graduation at 15 months).
You’ll learn in UWE Bristol’s state-of-the-art School of Engineering, which features engine test cells, collaborative learning spaces, and high-tech equipment. The program includes regular factory tours, professional briefings from leading aerospace organisations, and opportunities for placements with partners such as Airbus, Rolls-Royce, GE Aviation, and Leonardo Helicopters. You’ll develop prototypes in well-equipped laboratories and gain hands-on experience with industry-standard tools. You will have access to:
Engine test cells for propulsion studies
Subsonic and supersonic wind tunnels for aerodynamic testing
Robotics workshops and manufacturing facilities for prototype production
Computer-aided design (CAD) suites and digital facilities
Electronic fabrication laboratories for control systems and circuit boards
Group and individual design projects using industry-standard software
Factory visits and professional briefings by aerospace companies
Placement with major industry partners
Collaborative learning environments and dedicated engineering library facilities
Graduates are highly employable, with job opportunities ranging from the design and manufacture of civil and military aircraft to working with helicopters and jet engines. UWE’s strong industry links and professional accreditation support excellent career prospects and access to placements with top employers. Graduates report median earnings of £28,000 one year after graduation, £32,000 after three years, and £37,000 after five years. UWE Bristol is ranked in the UK top 20 for graduate employment prospects, with 92% of graduates in work or further study 15 months after graduation.
You’ll benefit from:
Professional accreditation: Accredited degree supporting your journey to professional registration
Industry partnerships: Strong industry partnerships with leading companies such as Airbus UK, Rolls-Royce, GE Aviation, Leonardo Helicopters, GKN Aerospace, and BAE Systems
Practical experience: Hands-on experience with advanced aerospace facilities and real-world projects
Career support: Dedicated career support and networking events
Aerospace cluster access: Access to the UK's largest aerospace cluster and the West of England's £2.7 billion aerospace and advanced engineering sector, home to over 10 world-leading aerospace companies and the National Composites Centre
Further Academic Progression: Postgraduate study can be pursued in fields such as MSc Aerospace Engineering, Aeronautics, or Astronautics. The program's solid technical and industry foundation also opens up access to fields like AI & Data Science, Management, and Technical Development.
