The UWE Bristol MEng Aerospace Engineering is an accredited four-year master's degree designed with industry input to prepare you for technical leadership in aerospace. The program is suitable for students seeking a deep, practical education in aerospace manufacturing, systems, and design, with the option of a further year-long placement in industry-related fields.
Curriculum structure:
Year 1: You’ll study Aerospace Engineering, Aerospace Thermofluids, Dynamics Modelling and Simulation, Engineering Practice 1, and Solid Mechanics, Materials and Manufacturing. This year builds your foundation in core engineering principles and practical lab skills.
Year 2: Modules include Aerospace Systems Design, Engineering Practice 2, Engineering Research, Flight, Fundamental Aero-Propulsion, Fundamental Aerodynamics, and Structural Mechanics. You’ll also have the opportunity to specialise in Systems, Design, or Manufacturing pathways.
Year 3: You will do an Aerospace Group Design Project and a personal Engineering Project, along with Professionalism for Engineers (if not on placement). Take four optional modules such as Aero Structures, Avionics, Composite Engineering, Control Engineering, Digital Manufacturing in Aerospace, Further Aero-Propulsion, Further Aerodynamics, Integrated Electro-Mechanical Systems, Space Engineering, or Spaceflight, depending on your interests.
Year 4: You will be undertaking a Master's Group Capstone Project and select four advanced optional modules from such areas as Advanced Aerodynamics, Advanced Manufacturing, Aero-Acoustics, Aeroelasticity, Principles of Flight Test, Principles of Lean Engineering, Space Systems Design, and Structural Integrity in Design.
Focus areas: Aerodynamics, propulsion, flight mechanics, aerospace systems design, structures, manufacturing, avionics, space engineering.
Learning outcomes: Design and analyse aerospace vehicles, develop and test prototypes, apply computational and experimental methods, manage multidisciplinary teams, and demonstrate advanced problem-solving.
Professional alignment (accreditation): Accredited by the Royal Aeronautical Society (RAeS); re-accreditation in process for 2025 intake.
Reputation (employability ratings): 86.5% of engineering graduates employed or in further study within 15 months; median starting salary £28,000 (15 months after graduation).
You’ll gain practical skills in UWE Bristol’s state-of-the-art School of Engineering, featuring engine test cells, subsonic and supersonic wind tunnels, manufacturing workshops, and robotics labs. The curriculum includes embedded project weeks, group design projects, and regular factory tours. Access to high-tech equipment and digital resources ensures you’re ready for industry challenges. You will have access to:
Engine test cells for propulsion studies
Subsonic and supersonic wind tunnels for aerodynamic experiments
Robotics workshops and factory spaces for prototype development
Computer-aided design (CAD) suites and web-based resources
Electronics fabrication labs for control systems and circuit boards
Group and individual design projects with industry-standard software
Industry briefings and factory tours with leading aerospace partners
Collaborative learning spaces and dedicated library resources for engineering
On-site driving simulator facility for vehicle dynamics and control systems research
