Program Overview

The BEng (Hons) Mechanical Engineering program at Swansea University prepares students with the abilities to design, evaluate, and create mechanical systems. Core modules consist of Applied Mechanics, Thermofluids, Engineering Design, and Intelligent Manufacturing and Robotics, developing gradually throughout the three years. Learners develop skills in applications such as MATLAB and Finite Element Method (FEM) software. The program has accreditation from the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE), meeting the educational standards for Chartered Engineer (CEng) designation. Experiential Learning (Research, Projects, Internships etc.)

Students gain advantages from practical experiences in dedicated laboratories and workshops at Swansea University's Bay Campus. The syllabus features hands-on components such as the Engineering for People Hackathon and solo engineering projects. Although a placement year is not included, students can participate in student societies and competitions, including Formula Student teams. A distinctive feature of the program is its focus on smart manufacturing and robotics, giving students access to advanced technologies.
