BEng Mechanical Engineering

3 Years On Campus Bachelors Program

University of Bath

Program Overview

Our program instructs you on utilizing physical science, mathematics, and computing to evaluate engineering systems. You will merge this with imaginative innovation and an emphasis on design and business to provide you with the comprehensive skill set that professional engineers require.

At Bath, we are proud to contribute to the development of our students, ensuring they not only reach their potential but are also ready for the challenges engineers encounter in the world after university. Considering this, our course enhances your engineering expertise by including transferable skills such as complex problem-solving and critical thinking. It enables you to contemplate broader matters that affect engineering, including ethics, sustainability, and ecological consciousness.

Hands-on project work is fundamental to your learning experience. During your last year, you'll have the opportunity to apply theoretical knowledge through a full-time, semester-long individual project. You can also become a member of one of our teams to participate in global contests like Formula Student or the Shell Eco Marathon.

Experiential Learning (Research, Projects, Internships etc.)

The BEng (Hons) Mechanical Engineering course at the University of Bath provides a thorough experiential learning structure that combines theoretical knowledge with hands-on engineering abilities.

Professional Placement Year: Students can choose to engage in a year-long industrial internship, usually following their second year. This opportunity enables students to utilize their academic knowledge in a professional setting, acquire hands-on work experience, and receive a salary. Previous placements have featured firms like Unilever, Rolls Royce Cars, and Airbus UK.

Project-Based Learning: During the course, students participate in project-based learning that combines engineering science with hands-on projects. This method aids students in building robust creative design skills in combination with engineering knowledge, allowing them to address practical, open-ended challenges and excel in problem-solving.

Research Opportunities: The Mechanical Engineering Department at the University of Bath participates in innovative research, and students can engage in research projects throughout their academic journey. This participation enables students to make contributions to developments in the field and acquire important research experience.
