Experiential Learning (Research, Projects, Internships etc.)

Design & Research Projects

  • Annual Design Projects: Throughout the academic year, team-based design projects imitate real-world engineering issues, encouraging teamwork and problem-solving abilities. ​
  • Final-Year Group Design Project: In the fourth year, students work on a large group project, combining expertise from multiple disciplines to solve complex engineering challenges.

Industrial experience

  • Year in Industry: Following the third year, there is usually an optional structured placement year. Students acquire hands-on experience in the mechanical engineering industry, guided by both the host firm and the university. ​
  • Internships and Summer Placements: Students are encouraged to pursue internships throughout the summer to get practical experience and increase their employability. ​

Sustainability and Social Responsibility Initiatives

  • Ethical Grand concerns: Students participate in interdisciplinary activities that address global concerns while developing social responsibility and ethical understanding. ​
  • University Living Lab: This initiative enables students to collaborate with external organizations on real-world sustainability projects, bringing engineering knowledge to societal concerns. 

Laboratory and Practical Work

  • State-of-the-Art Facilities: Students have access to modern laboratories, including as wind tunnels and laser labs, which provide hands-on experience with cutting-edge technology. 





 

Progression & Future Opportunities

Academic Progression

  • Because the MEng is an integrated Master's degree, graduates are unlikely to pursue additional taught Master's programs; nonetheless, many go on to research-based PhDs.
  • The degree is accredited by the IMechE and allows for immediate advancement to Chartered Engineer (CEng) level.
