The University of Manchester Background

The University of Manchester is a public research university in Manchester, England, formed in 2004 by the merger of the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology and the Victoria University of Manchester. The university is associated with 25 Nobel Laureates, the fourth highest for any university in UK. It is the largest single-site university in the country.

The University of Manchester Programs and Courses

The university comprises of 3 faculties and each faculty houses individual schools. The Faculty of Biology, Medicine & Health consists of the School of Biological Sciences, the School of Medical Sciences, and the School of Health Sciences. The Faculty of Science & Engineering comprises of School of Chemical Engineering & Analytical Science; School of Chemistry; School of Computer Science; School of Earth & Environmental Sciences; School of Electrical & Electronic Engineering; School of Materials; School of Mathematics; School of Mechanical, Aerospace & Civil Engineering and School of Physics & Astronomy. The Faculty of Humanities is made up of five academic Schools: Alliance Manchester Business School; School of Arts, Languages & Cultures; School of Environment, Education & Development; School of Law and School of Social Sciences.

The total student population at the university is more than 39,000 of which over 27,000 are enrolled in undergraduate courses. The student to faculty ratio at the university is 10:1

It provides a range of study opportunities for students, including study abroad options and industrial placements. The University College of Interdisciplinary Learning (UCIL) offers many students the opportunity to study course units outside of their main degree program, thus providing them the opportunity to broaden their educational horizons.
