MEng Hons Mechanical Engineering including an Industrial Year

5 Years On Campus Bachelors Program

University of Nottingham

Program Overview

Are you eager to extend the limits of engineering to address intricate issues that enhance the sustainability and efficiency of our world? This course will provide you with the chance to merge your initiative, numerical abilities, and in-depth subject expertise to improve modern industry for everyone.

Mechanical engineering is essential across numerous sectors such as aerospace, manufacturing, healthcare, renewable energy, and Formula 1. Indeed, there is very little in our daily existence that isn't influenced by advancements in mechanical engineering, ranging from the vehicles we operate to the methods used for food processing.

In addition to instructed classes, you'll have access to outstanding manufacturing research facilities, featuring robotics and 3D printing methods. You will further utilize your knowledge in both individual and group project contexts.

Mechanical and manufacturing engineering have a shared curriculum for the initial two years, during which you will acquire the basics of engineering science and design. In the third year, you will focus on options in mechanical engineering.

This is a five-year program, and the fourth year offers chances for an industry placement.

Experiential Learning (Research, Projects, Internships etc.)

The MEng (Hons) in Mechanical Engineering with an Industrial Year at the University of Nottingham provides a thorough experiential learning environment, combining theoretical knowledge with hands-on engineering abilities.

Industrial Placement Year: A crucial aspect of this five-year program is the extended industrial placement, usually carried out in the second-to-last year. Throughout this timeframe, students work and receive compensation from a host company while staying fully enrolled at the university. This opportunity enables students to utilize their academic knowledge in practical environments, acquire industry-specific skills, and obtain significant insights into their selected area. The university offers assistance via academic tutors and the Faculty Placement team, helping students maximize their experience during their year in industry.

Project-Based Learning: From the beginning, learners participate in project-based learning that integrates engineering principles with hands-on projects. This method enables students to excel in addressing practical, open-ended challenges, improving their problem-solving abilities and shaping them into more proficient engineers.

Advanced Modules and Research Opportunities: In the program's later phases, students explore sophisticated subjects like agile design techniques, systems engineering, and sustainable design approaches. They participate in prototype creation, design reporting, and team guidance, acquiring hands-on experience in overseeing and executing engineering projects. These modules seek to offer practical experience in engineering at a professional standard, incorporating a blend of experimental, theoretical, and computational tasks.
