Law with a Language LLB (Hons)

3 Years On Campus Bachelors Program

University of Sussex

Program Overview

This degree lets you build a strong foundation in English law while also studying a modern or sign language, such as French, Spanish, Mandarin, Japanese, Arabic, or British Sign Language. It’s a great choice if you enjoy languages and want a legal qualification that prepares you for opportunities both in the UK and internationally.

Curriculum Structure

Year 1
Your first year focuses on the essentials of legal study, with core modules like English Legal System, Contract Law, and Tort Law. Alongside these, you begin developing your chosen language through classes designed for your level, whether beginner or advanced. This combination helps you grow your legal knowledge while building strong communication skills in another language.

Year 2
In your second year, you move into deeper areas of law, such as Criminal Law and Public Law, giving you a clearer understanding of how legal systems operate. You’ll continue strengthening your language skills through more advanced modules that focus on speaking, writing, and cultural understanding. You can also start shaping your degree with optional subjects that match your interests.

Year 3
Your final year brings more specialised legal topics, which may include modules like Land Law or other advanced options in areas such as international or comparative law. At the same time, you’ll take higher-level language modules to further refine your fluency and cultural insight. You can also benefit from practical experiences like taking part in Sussex Law Clinics or other real-world learning opportunities.
