4 Years On Campus Bachelors Program
This BA (Hons) combines immersive Spanish language and cultural study with the practical discipline of Human Resource Management, allowing you to become a confident linguist and an effective people‑manager. It’s an excellent choice if you’re passionate about Spanish-speaking cultures and also want to build strategic skills in organisational behaviour, employability, and managing people.
Curriculum Structure
Year 1
In year one, you’ll build foundational Spanish through either Spanish 1A & 1B (for those with prior experience) or Introduction to Spanish 1A & 1B (if you’re starting fresh). These modules cover the four core language skills — speaking, listening, reading, and writing — while introducing you to Spanish‑speaking cultures. At the same time, you’ll take Managing People, which gives you a solid introduction to how organisations function, how people are managed, and the employer‑employee relationship.
Year 2 & Year 3
Over years two and three, your Spanish proficiency deepens: you’ll refine your grammar and communication skills in Spanish 2A & 2B, and explore cultural, political, historical, and cinematic themes with modules like Spanish & Latin American Studies II. During the same period, on the HRM side, you take Work Psychology, applying psychological theory to understand motivation, well‑being, decision-making and team dynamics, and Work Psychology for HRM, where you examine recruitment, performance management and leadership through a psychological lens. In your third year, the HRM curriculum further explores Work, Employment & Society, looking at how work is regulated and how employment is changing, and Employment Relations, studying collective bargaining, power dynamics, and conflict in the workplace. Also in this year, you complete Spanish 3A & 3B, bringing your language skills to a professional level and preparing you for a year abroad.
Year Abroad
After your third year, you’ll spend a compulsory year abroad — either working (for example, as a language assistant) or studying at a partner university. This is a key part of the course, helping you apply your Spanish in real-life contexts while gaining cultural and professional experience.
Year 4
In your final (Honours) year, you’ll focus on advanced Spanish: taking Spanish Honours Spoken Language (including interpreting skills) and choosing from culturally rich classes such as Key Theories & Debates of Translation Studies, Latin America through Indigenous Eyes, or Visual Culture in Spain. You’ll also carry out an Honours dissertation in Spanish on a topic of your choice. On the HRM side, you can choose specialist modules like Advanced Organisational Behaviour, HRM & Employment Relations in Public Services, Perspective on Work & Employment, or Human Resources in the Global Economy, preparing you for strategic HR roles.
