4 Years On Campus Bachelors Program

University of Abertay Dundee

Program Overview

If you’re passionate about fitness, wellbeing and the science behind how our bodies work, this degree gives you the knowledge and hands-on skills to turn that passion into a career. You’ll explore how nutrition, exercise and lifestyle choices influence health — combining practical lab work with real-world learning to prepare you for roles in health promotion, sports performance, or nutrition science.

Curriculum Structure

Year 1

Your first year introduces the core principles of nutrition, biology and human health. You’ll study modules like Fundamentals of Nutrition, Applied Biological Sciences for Food and Human Health, and Social Science for Sport and Exercise — building a solid understanding of the human body, metabolism, and how food and lifestyle impact wellbeing. You’ll also learn about Nutrition and the Consumer and Safe Food Handling, gaining insight into food safety and the psychology behind eating habits.

Year 2

In second year, you’ll deepen your scientific knowledge while developing strong research and analytical skills. You’ll explore areas like food chemistry, human physiology and nutritional assessment, learning how to evaluate diet and fitness data in real contexts. This year sets you up to choose your specialist focus and prepares you for practical applications of nutrition and exercise science.

Year 3

By third year, your studies become more specialised in fitness, nutrition and health promotion. You’ll examine topics such as exercise physiology, sports nutrition, and public health, connecting theory to practice through lab work and community-based projects. You’ll also get opportunities for placements in fitness or health organisations, giving you valuable industry experience before you graduate.

Year 4

In your final year, you’ll bring everything together through advanced modules and an independent research project. You’ll study areas like dietary intervention strategies, advanced metabolism, and health leadership, applying your knowledge to solve real-world health challenges. This year is all about becoming a confident, career-ready professional ready to make a difference in people’s wellbeing.
