The BSc (Hons) Midwifery at Teesside University is designed for students who want to make a real difference in the lives of women, babies, and families. Curriculum Structure

Year 1 – Foundations of Midwifery Practice
In your first year, you’ll build a solid understanding of the midwife’s role through modules such as Introduction to Midwifery, Anatomy and Physiology for Childbearing, and Professional Values and Communication. You’ll also begin clinical placements early, allowing you to connect theory with real-life maternity care.

Year 2 – Developing Skills and Clinical Confidence
The second year focuses on applying your knowledge in practice with modules like Applied Midwifery Practice, Public Health and the Childbearing Family, and Evidence-Based Midwifery. With increased placement time, you’ll gain confidence in supporting women through both normal and more complex pregnancies and births.

Year 3 – Readiness for Professional Practice
In your final year, you’ll prepare for qualification through modules such as Complex Midwifery Care, Leadership and Management in Midwifery, and an Independent Research Project. This stage helps you develop leadership, decision-making, and resilience so you’re ready to step straight into professional practice.
