Program Overview

The BSc Hons Midwifery program at the University of Central Lancashire is designed for those passionate about supporting women, birthing people, and families during one of life’s most important moments. Curriculum Structure

Year 1:
In your first year, you’ll be introduced to the foundations of midwifery, studying modules such as Human Anatomy, Physiology and Psychology (MW1500), Public Health and Continuity of Care (MW1501), and Professional Development (MW1502). You’ll also begin developing practical skills in clinical labs and real-world settings, learning how to adapt your knowledge to individual needs and circumstances.

Year 2:
Your second year builds on your knowledge with modules like Quality Improvement in Midwifery Care (MW2500), Public Health and Continuity of Care Models (MW2501), and Midwifery Skills in Practice (MW2503). You’ll deepen your understanding of evidence-based practice, law, ethics, and the role of the midwife in supporting families and communities.

Year 3:
In your final year, you’ll focus on leadership, research, and excellence in midwifery practice. Modules include Leadership, Research and Collegiate Partnership (MW3500), Evidence-Based Practice (MW3501), and Midwifery Skills in Practice (MW3502). You’ll consolidate your skills and knowledge, preparing for autonomous practice and registration as a midwife

Experiential Learning (Research, Projects, Internships etc.)
