Curriculum structure

Year 1

In the first year you’ll engage with modules such as Universal Skills for Midwifery, Essential Midwifery Care and Professional and Accountable Practice. You’ll learn the fundamentals of anatomy, physiology and the midwife’s role across the antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal periods, while starting your practice in the simulated environment of the Allam Medical Building.

Year 2

During year two you’ll study modules like Additional Skills for Midwifery, The Newborn Infant and Midwifery Practice 2. Here you’ll build on your foundational skills to recognise complications in pregnancy and birth, understand neonatal care, and operate more confidently in real maternity units and community placements.

Year 3

In the final year you’ll progress to modules such as Leadership in Practice and engage in the highest level of clinical practice with Midwifery Practice 3. You’ll prepare to lead care, apply evidence‐based midwifery practice, coordinate complex maternal and neonatal care and complete your clinical proficiencies to enter the profession as a fully registered midwife.
