University of Hull

The University of Hull was founded in 1927. It is a public research university in Kingston upon Hull, a city in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England. The first chancellor of the university was Lord Middleton (1954–1969), followed by Lord Cohen (1970–1977), Lord Wilberforce (1978–1994), and Lord Armstrong (1994–2006). Since April 2006, the current chancellor is Virginia Bottomley.

University History

In 1927 University of Hull was founded. The foundation was laid by Prince Albert, the Duke of York (who later became king as George VI). The first principal of the college was Arthur E. Morgan (1926–1935) and the second was John H Nicholson (1935–1954) who was the university's first vice-chancellor when the college was granted university status (1954–1956). In 2000 the university bought the site of University College Scarborough on Filey Road, Scarborough, and additionally two linked buildings on the same road. The site later became the University of Hull Scarborough Campus.

Campuses

Main Campus-

The main campus at University of Hull is located in a residential district of North Hull on Cottingham Road. Its main campus is in a suburban rather than urban district. The main campus is self-contained in regard to catering and entertainment for students and staff. The campus has a large Students' Union building, which is majorly known as one of the finest in the country. The campus also provides large playing fields and other sports facilities. The wide area of Cottingham on Hull's north-western outskirts is home to some of the university-owned student accommodation.

 Scarborough Campus-

Scarborough Campus of University of Hull is a satellite campus of the university located in Scarborough, North Yorkshire.  The campus is home to approximately 2,000 students. The campus offers higher education like- BSc and BA degrees. In 2000, the campus building was acquired by the University of Hull. It offers wide range of courses- Marine Biology, Digital Media, Music Technology Theater Studies, Tourism Management, and a number of Business and English courses. The campus also has basic requirements for study, such as computer labs, performance studios for students of Theater and Dance related courses as well as dedicated music suites in the "Filey Road Studios".
