Curriculum structure

Year 1

In your first year you’ll take modules such as Universal Skills for Midwifery, Essential Midwifery Care and Professional & Accountable Practice as you build foundational knowledge in anatomy, physiology, public health and the role of the midwife. You’ll also complete Midwifery Practice 1 in a supervised clinical environment, gaining your first practical experience and applying what you learn in the simulation centre at the Allam Medical Building.

Year 2

In the second year you’ll move into modules like Additional Skills for Midwifery, The Newborn Infant and Midwifery Practice 2, focusing on more complex care for mothers, babies and families, including recognising and managing complications and neonatal health. Practice placements deepen your exposure to maternity care settings and the community, strengthening your decision-making and midwifery identity.

Year 3

During the final year you’ll study modules such as Leadership in Practice, Childbirth 2 and advanced practice modules as you prepare for full professional registration, leading care and integrating evidence into practice. Midwifery Practice 3 (or equivalent) places you in real-world settings where you’ll coordinate care, use your leadership skills and complete the full scope of midwifery proficiencies required for registration.

Experiential Learning (Research, Projects, Internships etc.)
