3 Years On Campus Bachelors Program
The Adult Nursing Blended Learning BSc (Hons) lets you become a qualified adult nurse while enjoying the flexibility of a blended study format — combining online learning with hands-on clinical placements. It’s ideal if you want a rewarding career helping people, but also value the flexibility to learn at your own pace while gaining real-world nursing experience.
Curriculum Structure
Year 1
In your first year, you’ll build a strong foundation in nursing and start developing your professional identity. Modules like Becoming a Professional Practitioner, Nursing Assessment and Care Delivery, Understanding Influences on Health and Care, and Evidence: Your Profession in a Global Context cover the essentials — from assessing patient needs to understanding how health is influenced by social and global factors. You’ll also begin placements (Placement 1: Introduction to Nursing Care and Placement 2: Delivering Nursing Care) to gain hands-on experience working with patients under supervision.
Year 2
Year two is about taking your skills further and learning to handle more complex care situations. Modules such as Therapeutic Interventions in Adult Nursing and Complex Decision-Making within Adult Nursing Environments teach you how to make critical clinical decisions and deliver advanced care safely. Enhanced Approaches in Delivering Holistic Care ensures you can treat patients as whole people — considering physical, emotional, and social needs. Practical placements (Placement 3: Delivering Enhanced Nursing Care and Placement 4: Delivering Complex Holistic Nursing Care) give you the chance to apply what you’ve learned in real healthcare settings.
Year 3
Your final year prepares you for professional practice and leadership. Complex Care Coordination in Adult Nursing trains you to manage comprehensive care plans, while Leading for the Future as a Health and Care Professional develops your leadership and teamwork skills — essential if you want to supervise or manage care teams. The Evidence-based Practitioner: Professional Project and Preparing for your Career in Nursing help you reflect on your learning and consolidate knowledge. Final placements (Placement 5: Coordinating Nursing Care and Placement 6: Practising Autonomously) provide real-world experience, giving you the confidence to graduate ready for work.

At Coventry, learning to be a nurse goes far beyond lectures. With this blended programme, you’ll combine flexible online learning with plenty of hands-on experience, so you can develop the skills, confidence, and professional know-how you need before stepping into real patient care. You’ll practise in safe, realistic environments, then apply those skills in actual healthcare settings — building your competence gradually and effectively. Here’s how you’ll gain practical experience:
Simulation & mock-care settings: Train in purpose-built wards, mock operating theatres, critical-care units, therapy suites, and fully equipped “community houses,” so you can practise patient care, resuscitation, and advanced procedures safely before placements.
High-tech mannequins and medical equipment: Use realistic simulation dummies that respond like real patients, giving you the chance to practise everything from vital checks to emergency care.
Virtual Simulated Placements (VSPs): Some placements can be experienced virtually, using simulation software or VR to step into hospital wards or patients’ homes, helping you make clinical decisions confidently before working on-site.
Real-world clinical placements: About half of the programme involves placements in hospitals, community health centres, and care homes, allowing you to apply your skills directly with patients under supervision.
Digital tools and blended learning support: Online lectures, seminars, and self-study resources give you the flexibility to learn theory anywhere, while still attending campus labs and simulation sessions when needed.
Ongoing guidance and support: Placement supervisors, success coaches, and university support services are on hand to help you succeed academically and practically throughout the course.
