NTU’s BSc (Hons) Nursing (Adult) combines hands-on clinical experience with strong academic learning, helping you become a confident, compassionate nurse ready for the challenges of real-world healthcare.
Curriculum structure
Year One
Your first year focuses on getting the basics right. You’ll study modules like Introduction to Nursing Practice, Foundations of Applied Nursing Practice, and Integrative Nursing Practice, learning essential nursing skills, professional values, and how to communicate effectively with patients. Alongside this, you’ll start placements in real healthcare settings, giving you your first taste of adult care in practice.
Year Two
Year two builds on your foundation, with modules such as Evidence in Nursing Practice, Biopsychosocial Approaches in Nursing Practice, and Applied Nursing Practice in Complex Care. Here, you’ll explore how physical, mental, and social factors affect health, develop critical thinking skills, and gain experience caring for patients with complex or long-term conditions. Your clinical placements become longer and more challenging, helping you link theory to practice and develop confidence in your nursing abilities.
Final Year
In your final year, you’ll focus on leadership and independence with modules like Innovating and Improving Healthcare Practice, Leadership in Nursing, and Managing Applied Nursing Care. You’ll learn how to take charge of patient care, improve healthcare services, and prepare for your role as a professional adult nurse. Extensive placements ensure you graduate ready to step straight into practice.

At NTU, you’ll learn nursing by actually doing it. From day one, you’ll gain hands-on experience in realistic clinical settings, combining classroom learning with practice in the purpose-built Health & Allied Professions (HAP) Centre. Here, you’ll find mock hospital wards, consultation rooms, and specialist equipment where you can practise your skills safely before working with real patients.
Throughout the degree, around half your time is spent on real-world clinical placements, giving you the chance to care for patients in hospitals, community centres, and long-term care settings — building confidence and competence in a variety of adult care situations.
Here’s how experiential learning comes to life at NTU:
Clinical placements in hospitals and community settings — Experience the variety of adult nursing, from acute care to long-term patient support.
Simulated practice in mock wards and clinical skills labs — Practise procedures and assessments in lifelike hospital environments before working with patients.

Collaborative group work and interprofessional learning — Work with fellow students in team-based exercises to develop essential communication and teamwork skills.
Support and supervision during placements — Receive guidance and feedback from registered nurses, plus training and checks to ensure you’re ready and safe for practice.
