At NTU Mansfield, nursing isn’t just about lectures — it’s about learning by doing. From the very first year, you’ll get hands-on experience in realistic nursing environments, practising essential skills and working directly with patients under supervision. The University’s modern facilities and structured placements mean you build confidence and competence gradually, so when you graduate, you’re ready to step into a real nursing role.
Here’s how your practical experience comes to life:

Clinical placements throughout the programme — About half of your degree takes place in real healthcare settings across Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire, North Leicestershire, and South Yorkshire. You’ll apply what you learn in class to adult care, long-term conditions, and community health under the guidance of registered nurses.
Variety of practice settings and optional international placement — You’ll experience different environments, from hospital wards to community care, and in your later years you can choose an international placement to broaden your perspective.
Blended learning and digital support — Lectures, seminars, workshops, and the online learning environment (VLE) give you the flexibility to combine theory with practice and keep on top of assignments.
Personal tutors and professional supervision — You’ll have a dedicated personal tutor to support your progress, and during placements, registered nurses provide hands-on guidance to help you develop safely and confidently.
This mix of simulated practice, real-world placements, and expert support ensures you graduate feeling ready, capable, and confident to make a real difference in adult care.
