BSc (Honours) Nursing (Adult)

3 Years On Campus Bachelors Program

Sheffield Hallam University

Program Overview

If you’re passionate about helping adults in healthcare and want to make a real difference, this course will give you the skills, knowledge, and confidence to do just that. You’ll combine classroom learning with hands-on practice in hospitals and community settings, preparing you to become a professional adult nurse.

Curriculum Structure

Year 1
In your first year, you’ll build the foundation for a successful nursing career. Modules like Collaboration for Individual and Community Wellbeing, Fundamentals of Nursing Practice, and Sciences for Nursing Practice introduce you to person-centred care, anatomy and physiology, and working effectively in healthcare teams.

Year 2
In your second year, you’ll deepen your understanding and start applying your skills to more complex situations. Modules such as Applied Sciences for Nursing Practice, Developing Nursing Practice, and Personal and Professional Development help you care for adults with more complex needs while refining your professional identity.

Year 3
Your final year focuses on leadership and preparing for registration. Through modules like Complexity & Leadership in Professional Practice, Consolidating Sciences for Nursing Practice, and Transition to Registration in Adult Nursing Practice, you’ll gain confidence in leading care, making decisions in challenging situations, and stepping into your role as a qualified adult nurse.

Focus areas:
Adult nursing in hospitals and community settings, leadership in complex care, evidence-based nursing sciences, and professional transition.

Learning outcomes:
You’ll graduate able to assess, plan, and deliver safe adult nursing care, respond to complex health needs, demonstrate leadership and accountability, and practise as a reflective, evidence-informed nurse.

Professional alignment (accreditation):
This course is approved by the Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC), which means you can register as a professional adult nurse after graduation.

Reputation (employability rankings):
The course is ranked 6th in the UK for graduate outcomes in nursing (Complete University Guide 2026), and around 98% of graduates are in work or further study within 15 months.

Experiential Learning (Research, Projects, Internships etc.)

From day one, this course is designed to give you real, hands-on experience in nursing. You won’t just be learning from textbooks — you’ll practise in mock hospital wards, community care spaces, and clinical simulation suites that mirror real-world settings. Alongside this, you’ll have placements in hospitals, clinics, and community health services so you can apply what you’ve learned under the guidance of experienced nurses. Digital tools and reflective portfolios help you track your progress, while working with students from other health professions shows you how nursing fits into a wider healthcare team.

Here’s what your practical learning looks like:

  • Clinical simulation suites: practise nursing scenarios in mock wards and community spaces to build confidence and competence.

  • Placement opportunities: gain hands-on experience in hospitals, clinics, and community health settings under professional supervision.

  • Technology-enhanced learning: use virtual reality, digital skills labs, and online tools to support modern nursing practice.

  • Library and study support: 24-hour access to library resources and study spaces for research and evidence-based practice.

  • Collaborative learning: work alongside students from other health and social care disciplines to understand team-based care.
