Program Overview

The BSc (Hons) Learning Disability Nursing at Hull is a three-year degree designed to give you the knowledge and hands-on skills to provide high-quality care for individuals with learning disabilities. Through a combination of classroom learning and real-world clinical placements, you’ll be fully prepared to make a meaningful difference in people’s lives.

Curriculum Structure

Year 1: Foundations of Nursing Practice
In your first year, you’ll focus on building a solid foundation in nursing skills and professional practice. Modules like Fundamentals of Professional Practice and Fundamental Nursing Skills introduce you to the ethical, legal, and professional aspects of nursing. Practice 1 provides your first real-world experience, letting you observe and participate in care under the guidance of experienced supervisors.

Year 2: Developing Clinical Competence
The second year is about strengthening your clinical abilities and understanding health promotion. In Promoting Health and Preventing Ill Health, you’ll explore how social, physical, and psychological factors affect well-being. Practice 2 lets you gain more hands-on experience, while Developing Professional Practice teaches you to work confidently in multidisciplinary teams to deliver effective care.

Year 3: Advanced Practice and Professional Development
In your final year, you’ll focus on refining your skills for independent practice. Practice 3 involves more responsibility in care delivery, and the continued Developing Professional Practice module ensures you’re ready to work safely and effectively as a registered Learning Disability Nurse.

  • Practice Modules: Modules like Practice 1, Practice 2, and Practice 3 let you apply your learning step by step under supervision.

  • Supportive Supervision: Work closely with experienced practice supervisors and assessors, receiving constructive feedback throughout your placements.

  • Financial Support: Earn at least £6,000 per year during your studies, in addition to any student loan support.
