If you’re passionate about supporting women and families through one of the most important times in their lives, this degree is designed for you. The BSc (Hons) Midwifery at Hull prepares you to become a confident, compassionate, and skilled midwife through a balanced mix of classroom learning and hands-on clinical experience in real healthcare settings.
Curriculum Structure
Year 1
Your first year builds the foundations of midwifery practice. You’ll study modules like Universal Skills for Midwifery, where you’ll develop essential clinical and communication skills in the simulation suite, and Essential Midwifery Care, which explores anatomy, physiology, and the midwife’s role across antenatal to postnatal care. Alongside your academic learning, you’ll complete your first practice placements, applying your knowledge in real maternity environments.
Year 2
As you move into your second year, you’ll deepen your understanding of complex midwifery care and leadership. Modules such as Midwifery Practice 1 place you in real-world settings to enhance your confidence and competence, while The Newborn Infant focuses on assessing and supporting babies with additional health needs. You’ll also study Leadership in Practice, developing decision-making, teamwork, and leadership skills vital for professional growth.
Year 3
In your final year, you’ll refine your practice and prepare for professional registration. Through advanced practice placements, you’ll demonstrate the full range of midwifery proficiencies, supported by modules that strengthen your research and evidence-based skills.
