Experiential Learning (Research, Projects, Internships etc.)

At Salford, learning is far more than just textbooks — you’ll spend about half of your time in real hospital and community placements, working alongside experienced nurses and supervisors. The university also prepares you in state-of-the-art simulation labs that feel just like real hospital wards, so you can practise your skills safely before working with actual patients. These hands-on experiences help you build confidence, teamwork skills, and a real understanding of what adult nursing is like day-to-day.

  • Complete around 2,300 practice hours in a variety of hospital and community settings, giving you real-life exposure to adult care.

  • Train in simulation suites with advanced patient manikins (like iStan® and SimMan3G®) that breathe, blink, and respond, helping you practise both technical skills and patient communication.

  • Use immersive digital environments for scenario training, from ambulance bays to hospital wards and home visits.

  • Take part in group work and inter-professional workshops, so you learn to collaborate with peers as you would in real multi-disciplinary teams.

  • Experience placements across Greater Manchester in NHS trusts and independent sector providers, including both acute and community care.
