Curriculum structure

Foundation Year:
The foundation year is all about getting you ready for university-level study and a career in nursing. You’ll build essential skills with Essential Skills for Learning in Healthcare, explore the basics of the human body in Science for Healthcare, and understand how health fits into society with Health and Wellbeing in Today’s Society and Becoming a Healthcare Professional. By the end of the year, you’ll feel confident stepping into the main degree program.

Year 1:
Your first year of degree study introduces you to the heart of nursing. Modules like Communication and Professional Values for Health and Well-Being Across the Lifespan, Promoting Health and Well-Being Across the Lifespan, and Human Anatomy and Physiology for Person Centred Care will give you a strong foundation. You’ll also start practical placements through Principles of Adult Nursing and Practice Learning in Nursing 1, getting hands-on experience and learning to apply your knowledge in real-world settings.

Year 2:
In year two, you’ll take your skills to the next level. You’ll explore Person Centred Assessment in Adult Nursing, Fundamentals of Medicines Management and Therapeutics, and Safe and Effective Care Planning in Adult Nursing. Through Practice Learning in Nursing 2, you’ll gain more time in clinical settings, building confidence in assessing and supporting patients safely and effectively.

Year 3:
Your final year is about becoming a professional nurse. Modules like Leading and Managing Nursing Care, Challenges and Complexity in Adult Nursing, and a Dissertation: Critical Engagement with Practice will help you develop leadership and critical thinking skills. By the end of the year, you’ll be ready to step into your career fully prepared and confident.

  • Supervised Learning & Feedback – On placement, you’ll be guided by practice supervisors and assessors who provide structured feedback and support.

  • Digital Tools & Resources – Use the Virtual Learning Environment (VLE), e-workbooks, and library services to reflect on practice and consolidate learning.
