Reputation (Employability / Rankings)
Sheffield Hallam has a strong focus on employability, with a high proportion of graduates going on to skilled roles or further study soon after finishing. The course’s hands-on approach ensures you graduate career-ready.
This course isn’t just about reading textbooks or writing essays — it’s about getting real experience that prepares you for the kind of work you’ll actually do in the nutrition and wellbeing field. You’ll spend your time in specialist labs, kitchens, and workshops, using professional tools and software. You’ll work with real people and organisations, solve practical problems, and carry out your own research.
Everything is designed to make sure you graduate feeling confident, capable, and job-ready. You’ll be based right in the heart of Sheffield at the City Campus — with access to some incredible facilities and expert teaching staff who’ve worked in the industry themselves.
Here’s how you’ll build those hands-on skills throughout the year:
Work on real-life consultancy projects
You’ll take on projects for real clients — from designing a healthy menu for a dementia-friendly café to running food workshops in schools or creating resources for community groups. You get to plan, deliver and reflect on your work — just like you would in a real job.
Get stuck into lab and kitchen work
You’ll use nutrition and physiology labs, development kitchens and a sensory evaluation suite. These sessions are all about applying what you learn — testing, analysing, preparing and experimenting in professional spaces.
Use professional tools and specialist software
You’ll get experience with equipment like body composition analysers, health assessment tools, and diet analysis software. You’ll also build a digital portfolio — so you can show employers exactly what you’ve done during the course.
Work in teams, just like the real world
You’ll collaborate with other students on group projects — sharing ideas, solving problems, and building confidence in your communication and teamwork.
Carry out your own research project
You’ll choose a topic you care about and run your own research study. You’ll learn how to gather and analyse data, handle ethics, and share your findings — all essential skills for a future in nutrition, health, or academic work.
Learn from experts and connect with employers
Guest speakers from the food, health and wellbeing sectors drop in throughout the year, giving you insights and inspiration. You’ll also meet employers and get careers support to help plan your next steps.
Study in a top-class learning environment
