Program Overview

If you’re fascinated by how food, diet, and lifestyle impact health, UCLan’s Nutrition BSc (Hons) is designed to turn that interest into a career. Over three years (with a Foundation Year option), you’ll explore everything from nutrition for chronic diseases to public health, while gaining hands-on experience in labs, research projects, and professional settings to prepare you for life after graduation.

Curriculum Structure

Year 1: Building the Foundation
In your first year, you’ll get to grips with the basics of human biology, metabolism, and nutrition science. Modules like Introduction to Nutrition, Human Biology, and Food Science will help you understand how diet affects health, while developing skills in communication, teamwork, and evaluating scientific evidence.

Year 2: Diving Deeper
Second year focuses on applying your knowledge. You’ll study Nutrition and Chronic Disease, Dietary Assessment, and Food Chemistry, working on small research projects and practical exercises that show you how theory works in real-world nutrition and health settings.

Year 3: Advanced Practice and Research
In your final year, you’ll tackle advanced topics and real-world challenges, such as Advanced Nutrition, Public Health Nutrition, and an independent research project. By the end, you’ll have the confidence and skills to design nutrition plans, evaluate scientific evidence, and communicate your findings professionally.
