Program Overview

If you’re fascinated by food, health, and the science behind how what we eat affects our bodies, Nottingham’s Nutrition BSc is a great fit. This course blends biology, metabolism, psychology, and public health, giving you the tools to understand nutrition from cells and molecules right through to whole communities.

Curriculum Structure

Year 1
Your first year sets the scientific foundation. You’ll explore Fundamentals in Food Science and Nutrition, Introductory Physiology, and An Introduction to Genetics and Biochemistry. You’ll also look at Sustainable Agriculture, Food and Nutrition, linking food systems to health. Alongside this, you’ll build essential lab and study skills that will support you throughout your degree.

Year 2
In your second year, the focus shifts to applied nutrition. Modules like Nutrition, Metabolism and Disease and Nutrition and Physiology Interaction show how food impacts health and illness. You’ll also study Global Issues in Nutrition and Food and Society, helping you understand the cultural, social, and international influences on diet. Practical sessions in Human Nutrition Techniques give you hands-on experience with lab work and data collection.

Year 3
Your final year is where you put everything into practice. You’ll dive into Molecular Nutrition, Nutrition Across the Lifespan, and Changing Behaviour, Promoting Health. A highlight is your Nutrition Research Project, where you design and carry out your own study under expert supervision—this is your chance to specialise in an area you’re passionate about and show future employers your independent research skills.

  • In your final year, design and carry out your own independent research project on a nutrition topic you’re passionate about.
