MNutr Nutrition and Dietetics

4 Years On Campus Bachelors Program

University of Nottingham

Program Overview

If you’re passionate about food, health, and helping people live better lives, the Nutrition and Dietetics MNutr at Nottingham could be the perfect fit. This course blends science, healthcare, and real clinical experience so you can graduate as a fully qualified dietitian, ready to register with the HCPC and make a difference in hospitals, community settings, or public health.

Curriculum Structure

Year 1
You’ll start with the essentials—building a strong base in food science, nutrition, genetics, physiology, and biochemistry. Modules like Introduction to Dietetics and Sustainable Agriculture, Food and Nutrition bring theory to life in labs and workshops, giving you hands-on experience right from the start.

Year 2
In your second year, the course gets more applied. You’ll explore how nutrition links to disease in Nutrition Metabolism and Disease, sharpen your communication skills to support patients, and dive into global nutrition challenges. It’s a year that really connects the science with the human side of healthcare.

Year 3
Now the focus shifts to real-world dietetics. You’ll study modules like Principles & Practice of Dietetics and Nutrition Across the Lifespan, while also building research skills. Behaviour change, ethics, and public health nutrition take centre stage as you prepare for placements and independent work.

Year 4
Your final year is all about putting your knowledge into practice. Through Advanced Dietetic Practice and a 12-week clinical placement, you’ll work alongside professionals and patients. At the same time, your research project lets you dig deeper into a topic you care about, shaping you into a confident, practice-ready dietitian.

Focus Areas

clinical dietetics; public health & behaviour change; nutrition science; research & evidence-based practice; physiology & pathology

Learning Outcomes

You’ll learn how to assess nutritional needs, design tailored dietetic plans, understand the science behind disease, translate nutrition into practical advice, conduct meaningful research, and work ethically as a registered dietitian.

Professional Alignment

This course is fully approved by the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and accredited by the British Dietetic Association (BDA)—meaning you’ll be eligible to register as a dietitian in the UK when you graduate.

Experiential Learning (Research, Projects, Internships etc.)

This course doesn’t just teach you the science of nutrition and dietetics—it puts you right in the middle of real-world practice from the very start. You’ll learn in dedicated university facilities like the dietetics suite and then take those skills into hospitals, clinics, and community settings. Step by step, you’ll build confidence in working with patients, understanding different conditions, and applying your knowledge in a professional environment.

Here’s what that looks like in action:

  • Placement A (Year 1): An observational placement where you’ll visit hospitals, shadow dietitians, and get a feel for ward work and meal services.

  • Placement B (after Year 3): A more hands-on experience, where you’ll apply what you’ve learned in modules such as Nutrition Metabolism and Disease and Medicine and Pathology, working under supervision in clinical and community settings.

  • Placement C (Year 4): Your final placement, where you’ll take on more responsibility—managing patient cases, balancing workloads, and stepping into the role of a dietitian.

  • On campus, you’ll practice clinical and communication skills in the dietetics suite, a space designed to simulate real-world interactions with patients.

  • You’ll also use digital tools like PebblePad to track your progress and reflect on your learning throughout placements.
