Mpharm Pharmacy

5 Years On Campus Bachelors Program

University of Strathclyde

Program Overview

Strathclyde’s MPharm Pharmacy is a clinically integrated, science-rich degree designed to prepare you for a career as a prescribing-ready pharmacist. It’s ideal for students who want to combine drug science with real-world patient care — supported by placements, simulations, and strong NHS and industry links.

Curriculum Structure

Year 2
You’ll begin with a focus on normal body function and how nutrients and medicines are processed. Modules introduce the sale and supply of over-the-counter medicines, and you’ll explore how the body maintains health — laying the foundation for clinical and pharmaceutical knowledge.

Year 3
This year centres on common illnesses such as cardiovascular and respiratory diseases. You’ll study how these conditions develop, how medicines are formulated and compounded, and how they interact with the body — combining pharmacology with patient care.

Year 4
You’ll explore complex conditions like cancer, mental health disorders, and inflammatory diseases. Modules focus on new and better medicines, and how safety, efficacy, quality, and economics shape treatment decisions — all with a strong emphasis on patient outcomes.

Year 5
The final year prepares you for independent prescribing and advanced clinical decision-making. You’ll study patient groups with limited treatment guidelines, apply evidence-based approaches, and complete an independent research project that showcases your readiness for professional practice.

  • Optional summer research projects allow students to work with academic staff on real-world pharmaceutical investigations.
  • Group-based learning and interprofessional education are integrated throughout, including collaborative projects with other healthcare students.
  • Use of digital prescribing tools and patient case simulations, preparing students for clinical decision-making and medicines optimisation.
  • Access to the Strathclyde Institute of Pharmacy & Biomedical Sciences, which houses specialist labs for drug formulation, pharmacokinetics, and pharmaceutical analysis.
  • Library and digital resources, including the Andersonian Library and online databases for pharmacy and biomedical science.
