Physiotherapy BSc (Hons)

3 Years On Campus Bachelors Program

Coventry University London

Program Overview

Coventry University’s 3-year Physiotherapy BSc (Hons) is built to take you from an aspiring health professional to someone ready for HCPC registration and real clinical practice. Throughout the degree, you’ll learn how to use movement, exercise, hands-on therapy and patient education to help people recover and live healthier lives — opening doors to work in the NHS, private clinics, sports rehabilitation and beyond.

Curriculum Structure

Year 1

Your first year gives you the core foundations you’ll rely on throughout your career. You start shaping your professional identity in Becoming a Professional Practitioner, explore how the body functions in Understanding Human Health and Function, and learn the science of movement in Exploring Human Movement. You also look at the global side of the profession through Evidence: Your Profession in a Global Context, and begin applying person-centred care in Person-Centred Approaches to Physiotherapy. The year finishes with your first placement, Introduction to Practice-based Learning, where you step into real practice for the first time.

Year 2

In your second year, you dive deeper into how physiotherapy fits into different areas of patient care with Pathways of Care in Physiotherapy Practice. Your clinical confidence grows during Progressing Practice-based Learning, and you start developing your own interventions in Optimising Health and Wellbeing. You’ll strengthen your research and critical-thinking skills through Exploring Knowledge Through Curiosity, while Values-Based Physiotherapy helps you reflect on the ethical and professional standards expected in healthcare.

Year 3

Your final year is all about becoming a confident, independent practitioner. You take on two advanced placements — Engaging in Quality Practice and Developing Autonomous Practice — where you’re trusted with greater responsibility and clinical decision-making. Alongside this, Exploring Physiotherapy Practice and Facilitating Change Through Physiotherapy push you to handle more complex patient scenarios. You’ll also build essential leadership and teamwork skills in Leading for the Future as a Health and Care Professional. Everything comes together in your Professional Project, which connects research, real practice and professional growth.

Experiential Learning (Research, Projects, Internships etc.)

At Coventry, learning physiotherapy is not just about studying textbooks — you’ll constantly be applying what you learn in real, hands-on environments. From your very first year, the course places you in simulated hospital spaces, therapy studios, and realistic community settings so you can practise safely, build confidence, and start thinking like a clinician. By the time you reach your actual placements, you’ll already feel comfortable handling equipment, communicating with patients, and making sound clinical decisions.

Here’s how the experiential learning is brought to life throughout the course:

  • Mock Hospital Wards – You’ll train in realistic clinical spaces that replicate NHS environments, helping you understand patient flow, hospital routines, and treatment delivery.

  • Community “Home Setting” Rooms – These furnished, house-style teaching spaces allow you to practise physiotherapy in a home-care context, reflecting how rehabilitation often happens outside hospitals.

  • Strength & Conditioning and Rehab Suite – The course gives you access to advanced rehabilitation tools such as gait-analysis tracks, motion-capture systems and specialist equipment used in sports and movement therapy.

  • Five Full Clinical Placements – You’ll complete five substantial placements across different healthcare settings, giving you extensive patient contact and genuine workplace experience.

  • Simulation & Interprofessional Training – The program includes simulation sessions where you work alongside other healthcare students, helping you develop teamwork, communication and decision-making skills.

  • High-Fidelity Manikins & Critical-Care Simulation – You’ll use interactive manikins and mock high-dependency areas that allow you to practise acute-care skills in a controlled, safe environment.

  • Digital Portfolio & Reflective Practice – Throughout the course, you’ll build an e-portfolio documenting your growth, feedback, clinical experiences and reflective learning, preparing you for modern, evidence-based practice.
