Business and Health BSc

3 Years On Campus Bachelors Program

University College London

Program Overview

This degree combines core business disciplines — accounting, finance, marketing, strategy, entrepreneurship — with health and healthcare studies, giving you both managerial skills and deep insight into how the health sector works. It fits students who are interested in making an impact in healthcare (public health, hospitals, policy, innovation) but also want the freedom and breadth of business thinking.

Curriculum Structure

Here’s how the programme unfolds over the years.

Year 1

In the first year you build strong foundations. You study core business subjects such as Accounting and Finance for Managers, Principles and Practices of Economics, Principles of Marketing, and Introduction to Management. Alongside, you explore how business intersects with health through modules like Health and Social Care, Reimagining Healthcare, Innovation and Intrapreneurship for Healthcare, and Introduction to Statistics and Data Insights. This gives you both quantitative tools and exposure to healthcare challenges early on.

Year 2

In Year 2, you continue with general health & business topics — learning about project management, research methods, comparative health systems, and health ethics. Then you choose a route/specialism:

  • Healthcare Management route: you deepen knowledge in Health Economics, Healthcare Finance, Human Resource & Workforce Planning, Healthcare Supply Chain Management etc.
  • Health Science route: you explore Acute and Chronic Infectious Diseases, Frontiers of Knowledge in Population Health, A Life Course Approach to Health, Demographic Analysis etc.

This year is when you start to specialize, while still building the analytical, ethical, comparative, and methodological bases.

Year 3 (for BSc) / Years 3–4 (for MSci)

In the third year (BSc):

  • You hone higher-level business-health topics: Data Analytics and AI for Healthcare, Health and Sustainability, Health Policy and Management (if you took the Healthcare Management route) or Health Economic Development and Population Ageing (if you are on the Health Science route).
  • You also complete a Business and Health Research Project and a Capstone in Business and Health, which let you pull together learning, explore a topic you care about, and demonstrate your analytical, research, and presentation skills.

If you choose the MSci version (4 years): Year 3 is typically a placement year or study abroad, adding strong real-world or global experience. In Year 4 you continue with advanced modules (e.g. ESG, Health and Sustainability, Digital Health Start-ups, Strategic Healthcare Leadership, Healthcare Power and Politics, Pharmaceutical & Biotech Policies and Practices) plus your dissertation.

Learning outcomes

You will graduate able to: integrate business and health perspectives; apply data analytics, AI and research methods to health-related problems; understand health systems, policy, ethics, economics; lead, communicate and manage in healthcare settings; design innovative and sustainable solutions in business-health contexts.
